The 4 C's of Diamonds -- And the Standard We Refuse To Compromise

The 4 C's of Diamonds -- And the Standard We Refuse To Compromise

Introduction

Every diamond is graded by the same four fundamentals: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat — better known as the 4 Cs.

But what most buyers don’t realize is this:
Two diamonds with the same carat weight can look completely different, simply based on how the other three Cs are handled.

At Diamondboi, we don’t chase numbers — we chase presence, brilliance, and longevity.
Here’s how the 4 Cs actually work… and how we set our standard.

1. Cut — The Only C That Creates Sparkle

Cut is not the shape. It’s how well the diamond is proportioned and finished.

A perfectly cut diamond:
   •   Reflects light internally
   •   Returns maximum brilliance
   •   Appears larger and brighter than its carat weight

A poorly cut diamond, even if it’s colourless and high clarity, will look dull.

Our standard:
✔ Excellent Cut only
No shortcuts. No “Very Good.”
If it doesn’t sparkle under natural light, it doesn’t make the cut.

Cut is the difference between a diamond that looks expensive… and one that just weighs more.

2. Colour — Why We Stay in the D–E Range

Diamond colour is graded from D (colourless) down to Z (noticeable yellow or brown tones).

Most diamonds sold online fall into the G–J range, where warmth becomes visible — especially once set in white gold or platinum.

Our standard:
✔ D–E colour

Why?
   •   Icy white appearance
   •   Cleaner contrast with pavé and halos
   •   Better long-term satisfaction (and upgrade value)

Once a diamond is set, you can’t unsee warmth.

3. Clarity — Clean to the Eye Isn’t Always Clean Enough

Clarity measures internal inclusions and surface blemishes.

While many brands market “eye-clean” diamonds, that definition varies wildly.

✔ VVS2 or higher

This means:
   •   No visible inclusions
   •   No durability risks
   •   No clouds that affect brilliance

You’re not just buying how it looks today — you’re buying how it holds up over decades.

4. Carat — Size Is Only Impressive When Quality Is Right

Carat is weight, not visual size.

A poorly cut 3.00ct diamond can look smaller than a well-cut 2.50ct.
A warm stone can appear darker.
A cloudy stone can lose life.

At Diamondboi, we believe carat should enhance quality — not replace it.

That’s why we start with the first three Cs before talking size.

The Diamondboi Standard (In One Line)

D–E Colour · VVS2+ Clarity · Excellent Cut · Thoughtfully Balanced Carat

This is the baseline — not the upgrade.

It’s why our diamonds:
   •   Photograph brighter
   •   Perform better in all lighting
   •   Age beautifully
   •   Hold value within our lifetime upgrade program

Final Thought

Anyone can sell a diamond by weight.
Not everyone is willing to say no to inventory that doesn’t meet their standard.

After 20 years at the bench, this is ours.

If you’re choosing a diamond to last a lifetime,
the standard matters.
